Ammo prices on the way up.

Guns.Com reports Texas Retailers Report Ammo Shortages: Price Increases as Supply Dwindles. My buddies who attended the Birmingham AGCA gun show over the weekend reported it to be "jumping" and "crazy for ammo sales." Don't delay if you can.

The demand is up and the supply is down for two reasons.

Competition between the civilian and government purchase market.

And, ammo will get more expensive as the supply dwindles... not that the price will effect the government.

I read somewhere recently that the government is buying up all the .223 ammo that it can get its hands on. So if you are a .223 person, buy it up.

I do not believe that prices are rising due to a shortage. A couple years ago, raw material for bullets; copper, lead, brass, was being gobbled up by China, causing shortages. China's economy is slowing. So why are prices rising: "Because we can"! EVERYONE else is out to gouge the American people, so why be left out? The worst "inflation" seems to be with .22 long rifle. Maybe I'm just getting old and haven't kept up. That said, I'm not grabbing my ankles for anyone. Stick your ammo.

Could be just a high demand because were getting into spring/summer and people are going out shooting more.

As it becomes more and more obvious that "Herr Mitt" is going to be the "Golden Butt Boy" of the GOP. I would be buying more ammo if I had a place to put it too!

Herr Romney is a weak candidate and cannot beat the Obama onslaught .... plan accordingly America.

It's probably because we are headed for the 2012 election.

When I can find it, I stock up on 22LR SUBSONIC since I would hate to wake up the neighbors.

If you don't have one, get a milsurp CZ-52 and a trunkload of 7.62X25 ammo for dirt cheap. It's a fine "1911"ish SA pistol, and the 90gr ammo at 1,600 fps has superior penetration for thick-skinned beasties. For very little money, it's a great blaster with ammo that is practically free. I love mine.

Commodoties prices, quantitative easing, and inflation. Same reason a brick of Kraft cheddar is $2.50 instead of $2 like it was a year or so ago.

Interesting that they talked to Nocked and Loaded. I went into their store a year or so ago for the first and last time. Seeing a couple of okay prices initially, I had a long discussion with them about how some gun stores are terrible because of the incredible markups that result in driving away volume sales, resulting in higher markups to "make up for" the sales they drove away with high prices... then I looked around the store and saw how hideosly overpriced they were... realized I'd wasted a good 10 minutes talking to one of the guys at the store when his very shop was one of "those stores". Seeing a pistol at N&L that I'd bought that day at another store for $340 at N&L for $500+ really drove it home.

Plus sometimes it sucks knowing what dealer pricing is on firearms, and doing shopping for ammo online means you know basic prices. It makes obscene markups absurdly transparent. $80 Mosins that suddenly more than double or triple in price really catch the eye. Though maintaining inventory costs money, the knowledgeable customer is, and does, walk out at a certain point, and will take their word about price increases with a big grain of salt.
