"The awesome stupidity of the calls to tamp down political speech in the wake of the Giffords shooting." Plus, "The Media & The Shooter."

"In Defense of Inflamed Rhetoric"

"The media today, as it begins more expansive reporting, will not let the facts get in the way of making the right, yet again, responsible for violence it neither incited nor enabled."

Agree. Don't rein in your insanity.
You'll become irrelevant.

Inflamed rhetoric?
From Gateway Pundit:

The media and democrats want us to focus on the nation’s “caustic political climate”after the tragedy yesterday. Maybe they should start with President Obama.
He may be the worst offender.

** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
** Obama to Latino supporters: “Punish your enemies.”
** Obama to democrats: “I’m itching for a fight.”

If the media really wants to improve the “caustic political climate” they may want to start at the White House.

Words have consequences.

On both sides.

Resist.

I, personally, like political speech and inflamed rhetoric.

It's better than the alternative.

So did whoever those silly guys were who wrote the First Amendment, and the other ones...

The fault in this event lies with the person who pulled the trigger. Choices, consequences, and all.

I wonder if 1st Amendment violations will accompany 2nd Amendment violations as a frightened FedGov responds to this in fear and anger.

Thanks for these links, Mike.

The media like to brag that their mission is "to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted."
Now that those who believe in Bill of Rights values are the ones being afflicted, they say "You might want to put some ice on that."
A parting shot as they gallop toward irrelevance and obscurity.

Thank you, Arctic Patriot, for putting this in the corrrect context.
The left is a whole lot loonier than the right.

The left (Marxists) never miss a chance to use any event, to punish their opposition (law abiding American libertarian, conservatives and Jeffersonian liberals) and prefer lies to the truth because the truth and facts, are their enemies.

Fortunately, leftist politicians never have to worry what the media will say. They always support the lying, corrupt, leftists and "protect" the people from even a rumor, of what the truth might be!

Lest those same "protected" people, do something about the liars and the lying.

I seem to recall more than a few examples of "inflamed rhetoric" during the 1st 8 years of the last decade. If memory serves there were even thinly (extremely thinly) veiled threats on GW's life. Some of the things said in print or on video or online during that time would be cause for a not-so-discrete knock on the door from the Holder DOJ these days.

From my reading of history, the very WORST of the stuff we hear today would be considered incredibly mild back in the 19th century. And IMS, more than one editorial during the early 1860s called for Lincoln to be run out of town on a rail - OR WORSE.

Oh well, I suppose all we can do is continue to stock up on food stuffs and ammunition and keep our proficiency levels up.

Oh, Mike. Any word on frequencies for Radio Free Alabama? I just bought an emergency radio to receive AM, FM, and several SW bands that can run on internal rechargable batteries, replaceable batteries, an AC adapter, a hand crank, or solar cells. Now when do we get the word?

I knew someone would use this as an excuse to push for more federal gun laws, but as early as tomorrow?

It finally happened. The professional journalists I used to work with discuss on Facebook the Tucson shooting, the death of a niece's roommate in a fraternity house at the hands of a drunk gun owner showing his flashlight attachment, Va. Tech and Columbine.

"Our Constitutional rights are not absolute. We can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater, or slander or libel. Children and many felons can't vote. Felons can't own guns. We can be searched for probable cause (or even without it.) I could go on and on. You're right: the devil is in the details. But we at least need to launch the conversation in earnest, not only about the wisdom of arming the unstable, but also the need/desire for assault weapons and semiautomatic handguns in our society. They're for nothing but killing other human beings."
It goes on like that for 10 more comments. Only one of them seems to question eliminating freedom based on the misconduct of a few.
Why journalists rank lower than used car salesmen in public esteem.

Another one from the same guy, a race and civil rights columnist. One of his most recent columns said "this is the kind of family the city schools need to move back into the city to improve the quality." White, middle-class, working. He's black, so it's not racist when he says it.

"Unfortunately, our Supreme Court has expanded the right to individual gun ownership and eroded govt. restrictions against it. I don't know if there's a tragedy big enough to wrest control of America from the NRA."

We talked about Gandhi and the Dalai Lama once. Gandhi said "Be the change you wish to see in the world. We agreed that that was good. I didn't mention "Of all the deeds the British ... on India, depriving them of arms was the blackest."
And the Dalai Lama saying "If someone were to shoot at you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun"? There was no point bringing it up. A brick would be easier to reason with.

If the freedom haters are so afraid of some angry words I'll give them just that. I'll give them rhetoric that'll cause em' to be on Depends the rest of their lives-count on it.

And the noise about a internet ID is them imposing a license-they're going to make us ask them permission to exercise what's supposed to be a right. IF this goes through, we will either be silenced in fear of consequence, or silence because of federal consequences. Intolerable!

I'm more pissed off than when BP shit in the Gulf of Mexico last summer...

Then the Liberal media tries to use it as a second Reichstag fire?

Same old same old.

This was not an act of politics. "This was an act of a mentally disturbed young man hell bent on getting his 15 minutes of infamy. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department was aware of his violent nature and they failed to act appropriately. This tragedy leads right back to Sherriff Dupnik and all the spin in the world is not going to change that fact."
