"Sheep Get Hungry and Spit Out Their Liberty Teeth"

This is from Steve K:

Hi Mike,

I just came across this today. I'm not surprised that it was reported from the P.R.de K. Looks like the sheep are getting hungry and spitting out their Liberty Teeth for the promise of free food.

"S. Calif. residents trade guns for groceries Program brings in record number of weapons, thanks to tough economy"

Unfortunately we're probably going to see more of this suicidal lemming type activity happening more and more as the economy gets worse before it gets better.

On a brighter note, just celebrated my Birthday today by visiting a new gunshop with my wife Renee. She very much wants to adopt a DSA 24" Fal they have in stock.

Yours In Liberty! ~W~ III

Steven K.

The quote I found most interesting in this story was this:

One man brought in a Soviet-era semiautomatic carbine.

"If that got into the wrong hands of gangbangers, they could kill several people within minutes," Woods said. "Our biggest fear is a house getting burglarized and these guns getting taken."

Mind you, he's apparently talking about an SKS. On this theory, Sheriff's Sergeant Woods, I guess we would all be better off if we handed them all in?

OK - let's NOT let this moment pass us by!!! I will chip in with the rest of you - Mr. V can drive a rented van to Californicate, loaded down with fresh fruit, veggies, fresh baked bread, and barter whatever the best deals he can arrange to bring us all back some good firearms!!
This will tkae dangerous weapons out of the hands of the idiots who have NO idea what to do with them, give them some deelish fresh food, and bring the guns back to be placed in the hands of people who DO know what to do with them!!! How about it? I'm in for, let's see, I've got twenty bucks, two oranges and a head of lettuce. Oh, and some old hot dogs from last summer. Let's do it!

I'm not turning MINE in for anything, let alone gadgets or groceries!

That's just stupid!

Those who made that choice will now have to live with their decision...

Gun owners dropped their weapons off at a local grocery store parking lot. Deputies checked the weapons to see if they had been used in crimes, then destroyed them.

This doesn't pass the smell test. Unless they did the ballistics and serial number checks onsite and had the machinery capable of melting or cutting the firearms in the parking lot...

Well, it doesn't take much imagination to figure that, once out of the public eye, a few choice firearms were retained for various reasons. Why would anyone turn in an 'assault rifle' for $200, when they could sell it for $1000? I can't believe people are that stupid. Some of those turn-ins must have been staged.

Best Buy is a great place to compare electronic products, then go buy your choice at MUCH lower prices, elsewhere. Their support of gun turn-ins is just further incentive to withhold my money from them.

"Our biggest fear is a house getting burglarized and these guns getting taken."

if these particular owners don't have the good sense to use their firearms on hypothetical burglars in order to retain them, they don't much deserve them. therefore, this fear is unfounded, on top of being completely false. your local neighborhood round-em-up gestapo does not actually feel a single iota of fear to begin with. they would first have to fear that these gun owners supposedly under their protection are going to be burglarized. i'm really not seeing that here. reason dictates that if you are afraid for someone's life or property on the grounds that they might be burglarized, you would encourage them to purchase or gift them... oh, i dunno... some kind of... weapon... for defense...? anyone know of anything like that?

help me out here.

Every time I hear about one of these gun “buy-back” programs I have to laugh.

It brings to mind the scene in “Treasure of the Sierra Madre” when the bandit chief is trying to convince Humphrey Bogart that he should give up his gun, saying he doesn't need “that old iron”, and that he has the “wrong idea”. He says “We don't want to steal your guns, we will pay good money for them”.

Yeah, and after the bandits have all the guns, how long would Bogie and friends keep that money, or even keep their lives?
