Connecting to a printer via iPhone Personal Hotspot

In my new apartment, I do not yet have always-on internet. I'm using my iPhone's Personal Hotspot feature to use the AT&T cellular network for an internet connection for my computer. I have a wifi-accessible printer as well, so I connected it to the iPhone via wifi. This allowed my Mac to print as long as it, too, was connected via wifi, but reconnection is much easier if I just plug the iPhone in to the USB port of the Mac. That gives the Mac access, but on a different internal network than the wifi network, so it can't talk to the printer. Solution: make a wifi connection to the iPhone from the Mac before attempting to access the printer.
