J. Orlin Grabbe's home page now says:

We are sorry to inform you that James Orlin Grabbe passed away in his home in Costa Rica on March 15th, 2008.

He will be missed, Godspeed Orlin.

I read rumors of this in a couple of places, but was waiting for confirmation before spreading them. I didn't know Mr. Grabbe, but I sure enjoyed his web site. Unusual news and gorgeous women. Me liked.

When I first heard of his passing, I ran wget on his web site, to save what I could. It's at billstclair.com/grabbe, linked from my home page.

Don't forget Archive.org. They seem to have everything there.

A Great American

Grabbe said many unusual things and was often way off the mark, but he exposed many very real injustices and unfairnesses and some of his URLs were of inestimable value, both in a scientific and in a universal way. It would still be worth looking through his personal site. I mentioned on my blog that at least one person, Bill St.Clair (URL given) seems to have posted an archived copy of at least some of it. I am trying to get another one as well.

I have heard that some good guys have acquired the domain and permission to keep an archive at OrlinGrabbe.com.
