William W. St. Clair
1929-2001

William W. St. Clair, 72, of Cheyenne died Dec. 3 at United Medical Center-West after a long illness.

He was born Aug. 26, 1929 in Duluth, Minn., and has lived here since 1958. Bill St. Clair graduated from Williams College in 1951. While there, he was a Golden Gloves champion.

Bill joined the Air Force in 1952. In 1957 he pursued a master's degree in geology at the University of Wyoming. In 1958, he joined the Wyoming Air National Guard, retiring in 1984 as lieutenant colonel and deputy commander for resources.

While serving he flew various aircraft including F-86, F-51, F-100, C- 119, C-121 and C-130.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir. He was an international pistol shooter and a member of the all National Guard Pistol Team. For 20 years, he played the tuba for the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra and served as its president.

Bill's greatest love was soaring; hew as a competitive soaring pilot, earning his "Diamond Badge." He enjoyed a life membership in Daedalians. Sports that he enjoyed included fishing, hunting, tennis and golf.

Survived by his wife, Christina (Tina) Dann St. Clair of Cheyenne, whom he married March 20, 1954, in Maplewood, New Jersey; three sons, William W. Jr., of New Lebanon, N.Y, Stephen R., M.D., of Williamstown, Mass., and Chief Petty Officer John N. of Groton, Conn.; a daughter, Christina S. Baskett of Plano, Texas; nine grandchildren and a sister, Judy Austin of Moscow, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Carol St. Clair.

The funeral will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m.
